Dr. Mary Lee Call
CHAIRMAN
Dr. Mary Lee Call received a PhD in Applied Linguistics from UCLA, focusing on second language learning, teaching, and assessment. She worked as a language teaching consultant for the Peace Corps in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Cameroon, and for the U.S. Information Agency in Hungary, Russia, and Ukraine. She is fluent in Spanish, having lived in Argentina and Spain. After teaching in the Linguistics Department at Brigham Young University for six years, Dr. Call resigned to marry and become an instant mother to four children. She is currently chairman of the Board of Directors of Feed the World.
Dan Jorgensen
Mr. Jorgensen owns a working cattle ranch in Utah–much of it a Fishlake National Forest inholding. Following BYU and Harvard Business School, he joined Citibank’s international division in New York, Italy, Indonesia and finally Germany as European Comptroller. Later at Trinkaus & Burkhardt, Germany’s leading private bank he was Director of Investment Banking. Returning to New York he directed Citicorp/Citibank’s global insurance risk management activities creating innovative banking/insurance instruments in Aviation, Bonding and Political Risk as well as establishing captive insurance companies in US and offshore. His efforts led to Citibank’s first bank outside of New York. He joined AIG at the Chairman’s request to resolve third world debt. As a global trouble shooter he recovered all AIG’s major third world debt at the unprecedented rate of 96 cents on the dollar and then founded a bank in Moscow for AIG and Russian investors. He oversaw AIG’s business in Eastern Europe, Russia/CIS prior to launching his own boutique investment bank in Moscow.
Gary Garrett
Gary Garrett is the Vice President of Corporate Relations for Nu Skin Enterprises and also acts as the Managing Director of the Nu Skin Force for Good Foundation. In these roles, he works with Nu Skin’s community partners to strengthen company relationships and to identify ways to foster greater Nu Skin impact through these partnerships. He also works globally with each of Nu Skin’s markets to support their efforts to help children through Nu Skin’s non-profit foundation. Mr. Garrett earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Brigham Young University, receiving a Master’s in Public Administration from BYU’s Marriott School of Management, and joining Nu Skin directly from college in 1986. He has represented Nu Skin in various civic organizations over the years, and currently serves in assignments with Provo City’s Downtown “Center Focus” initiative, the UVU President’s Community Relations Council, the United Way of Utah County, and America’s Freedom Festival at Provo.
Brent Goddard
Brent Goddard is the Managing Director of Nourish the Children, a broad-scale initiative to provide VitaMeal to millions of starving children worldwide. Mr. Goddard has been involved with NTC since its beginning in 2002, and is the only employee working full-time on this project. During his involvement, VitaMeal has become one of the top ten selling products and over 180 million meals have been distributed to thousands of malnourished children in many countries. Previously, Mr. Goddard directed the company’s Olympic Sponsorship program, headed up the Pharmanex Product Development division, and managed U.S. Pharmanex Marketing. Mr. Goddard was Vice-President of Diet Center, Inc. and worked as a Marketing Executive for Gourmet Brands, Oral-B Laboratories, and Shasta Beverages. For several years, he ran his own consulting practice, assisting companies such as Sysco, Compaq, Kodak, Borden, and various public utilities with communications training, proposal development, and strategic planning. He also worked in new product development for General Mills. Mr. Goddard completed his MBA at Harvard University and earned his B.A. in Finance, magna cum laude, from the University of Utah.
Steven J. Lund
Steven J. Lund currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for Nu Skin Enterprises. Previously, Mr. Lund served as President and Chief Executive Officer from 1998 to 2003 and before that as President and Chief Executive Officer of Nu Skin Asia Pacific (NSAP) from November 1996 to May 1998. Mr. Lund also served as Executive Vice President of Nu Skin International (NSI) since its inception in 1984. Before joining Nu Skin Enterprises, Mr. Lund was an attorney with a private law firm specializing in litigation and products liability law. He holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School (1983). He is a member of the Utah, Arizona, and American Bar Associations and has served on the board of directors for the Direct Selling Association.
Dr. Paul Johnson
Dr. N Paul Johnston is a professor of Nutritional Sciences at Brigham Young University where he teaches courses in both human and animal nutrition. He has had over 30 years’ experience in working with the small farmers in developing worlds. Dr. Johnston was one of the founders of the small scale self-reliant agriculture program created by the Ezra Taft Benson Food and Agriculture Institute. He has personal experience working in Ecuador, Peru, Guatemala, Ghana, Morocco, Malawi, and Kenya. While teaching at BYU his students explore nutrition and food production problems that plague disadvantaged people of these countries. Recently a study was completed on the nutritional deficiencies of children at the Gona Primary School in Kenya. This case study showed the malnutrition and deficient food security for these children. Dr. Johnston is a former Fulbright Scholar to Ecuador.
Ramon Herrera
Ramón Herrera was born and raised in Lima, Peru. He attended The American School of Lima and graduated with a U.S. High school diploma and the Peruvian equivalent. He was a member of the Peruvian National Track Team (1000-meter run). He graduated from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Management. He served a full-time LDS mission in the Florida Tampa Mission. Ramon is married to Deborah Herrera and father of six children. Mr. Herrera is a well-qualified and results-oriented Business Manager and Administrator and business owner with over 20 years of successful experience. He is skilled at problem solving and establishing efficient systems that meet all aspects of a company’s or organization’s short-term and long-term needs. Ramon is fluent in both English and Spanish and conversant in French and Portuguese. He is an understanding leader with excellent communication skills: verbal, written, interpersonal and rapport building. Current owner of Thermos-save Incorporated, a company dedicated to the creation of systems for energy management with clients around the world.
Rick Smith
Rick Smith has worked in the field of finance and compliance for more than 20 years and is a Certified Fraud Examiner. Rick has significant experience working with public company Board of Directors and specifically working with the Board Audit Committees. As a director with KPMG Rick served clients in Oregon, Washington and Alaska, before being transferred to Detroit Michigan to direct the internal audit work for the Whirlpool Corporation which at the time was KPMG’s largest outsourced internal audit client. At Whirlpool Rick directed the internal audit and compliance work in North America and was responsible for the oversight of global fraud investigations for the company. Rick has served as the Vice President of Internal Audit for Flow International Corporation based in Seattle Washington as well as the CFO for Wade Cook Financial Corporation. Currently Rick Works with Connolly Inc. consulting with Fortune 100 companies advising them in the areas of contract compliance, operational improvement and fraud prevention.
Dr. James Thomas
Dr. Thomas is Professor Emeritus of Agriculture and International Development at Utah State University. He has served in academic and administrative positions at USU including Associate Dean of Agriculture, Plant Science Department Head, and Director of International Programs (Global Engagement). As part of his USU service, he worked a total of 16 years in 6 different countries as a long–term agricultural technical specialist, and advisor to governments, universities, research institutes, and private sector groups. He has extensive experience in small–scale agriculture for the developing world. He was a faculty member and Senior Advisor to the President of The Arab American University of Jenin, in West Bank for two years and the Director of USDA’s Far Eastern Regional Research Office in New Delhi for three years.
Dr. Thomas has provided consulting expertise in more than 40 countries in Africa, South America, the Middle East, and Asia, primarily in agriculture development, food production, technology advancement, and agriculture education.
Darren Gooch
Darren Gooch earned his MBA from Utah State University and became a CPA in 2005. He is a member of the AICPA-American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and UACPA-Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants. Darren is the AVP of Finance for Xactware Solutions, Inc. in Lehi where he has worked for the past 14 years. As an enthusiast of basketball and volleyball Darren is also the CFO of ACES Athletics, a sports complex located in Lehi, UT. Darren grew up on a small farm in a rural Utah town where he gained an appreciation for the small farmer. He served an LDS mission in South Texas learning to speak the Spanish language.
