Ecuador Update

Here are the results SRA has been able to achieve in a single year in our Project in Ecuador.

Guinea Pigs 3 guinea pigs average per family 33 higher quality guinea pigs per family All families now have sufficient animals for successful breeding
Chickens None 7 chickens per family with 22 eggs for consumption per week In 3 communities. Lack of budget to expand to all areas.
Rotational Garden None 100% of families have gardens which produce vegetables. 12 varieties of vegetables:
Onions, Carrots, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Spinach, Radishes, Beets, Broccoli, Lettuce, Cilantro, Turnips, Zucchini
Agriculture Field Crops Mostly Corn, with some Barley & Wheat 7 crops:
Sweet corn,Flint Corn,Potatoes
Beams, Barley
Wheat, Lupine
Pending implementation of Quinoa and Amaranth due to lack of funds. Initial crops being harvested now.
Corn 186.81 kg of Corn produced per family Family produces 241.33 KG of corn in same field (30%) increase They now have enough to eat and germinate a better quality corn in the next cycle.
Barley 292.20 kg of Barley produced 547.78 kg of barley now produced (96% increase) They now have enough to eat, germinate seed, and store what is left.
Wheat 352.25 kg of Wheat produced 782.17 kg of Wheat now produced
(121% increase)
They now have enough to eat, germinate seed, store and sell what is left.
Feed for animals None 100 % of families have food for Guinea pigs, Rabbits and Goats. Now that they are growing animal feed, families can expand animal production further.
 Nutritional advance Malnutrition 27.3% of children under 5 are chronically underweight After first harvest, underweight levels dropped to 21% Will have more data on latest harvest soon.
